As a seasoned banker with over 40 years of multi-faceted leadership and experience under his belt in the financial services industry. Edwin has numerous demonstrated stellar records of translating corporate objectives into marketplace achievements. As a proven leader, Edwin has orchestrated corporate lending within institutions with accomplishments in acquisitions, new product development as well as strategic planning and implementation in both domestic and international markets.
Edwin retired from DBS Bank Limited as Senior Adviser (HMD) to the group and sits as a member of the Singapore Group Management Committee in September 2013.
His role as Senior Advisor focuses on developing strong client relationship and establish cross sell strategies across the various banking divisions within DBS banking group, Consumer Banking, Private Banking and Corporate Banking. In addition, he is also responsible for identifying and creating new market space in Singapore and in the region.
Edwin joined DBS Bank Singapore in November 2003 as head of Consumer Banking lending business for both secured and unsecured products.
By end 2003, Edwin headed the Enterprise Banking division in Singapore and Southeast Asia under the Institutional Banking Group and was responsible for mid corporates and Small Medium Enterprises (“SME”) businesses for eight years. During that period, he successfully steered a declining SME banking business and turned it around from SGD $3.2 billion of loan outstanding assets to SGD 11.4 billion; and liabilities from SGD 3.4 billion to SGD 15.9 billion with Non-Performing Loans (NPL) at a stable level below 2%. respectively, with the SME banking business contributing 15% of the group’s revenue.
Edwin was also responsible and keyman for setting up offices and developing of strategies in Indonesia, India, Malaysia, and China.
Prior to Edwin’s commitment at DBS Bank Singapore, he served with Citigroup Inc for over 27 years at various positions including the last held position as Business Director and Head for Citigroup Global Consumer Banking, Secured Assets Finance Group.
His successful track record in developing strategies to raise new businesses can be seen when he spearheaded the Automobile, Mortgage, Consumer Finance and Margin Trading (Stocks) Financing portfolios in Singapore and across Asia Pacific for Citigroup with assets over USD 2.7 billion.
Edwin single-handedly built the Citigroup Singapore’s automobile business from zero base in 1985 to become the largest asset portfolio locally and globally for Citigroup and was responsible for 26% of total country EBIT revenue of USD $153 million for 2002 in Citibank Singapore. This resulted in Singapore office the number 2 largest contributor in the Asia Pacific region within Citigroup globally.
Aside, he held a successful track record in implementing direct and indirect sales structures with strategic alliances and growing the asset business into a USD $2.7 billion portfolio business for Citigroup.
During his time with Citigroup Inc, Edwin was the only Asian guest reviewer (1994 – 1999) for Business Risk Reviews for Europe and Latin America region. Edwin also managed, developed the Global Consumer Banking and International Personal Banking (“IPB”) for the Singapore business. He was also responsible for the setting up of overseas booking centres throughout Asia Pacific region and in Dubai with a portfolio of worth over USD 4.5 billion.
Edwin previously assumed the role as President of a Singapore independent Trust company. Currently, Edwin also serves as Director on various Boards (profit and non-profit), including an insurance company, where he is the Independent Director.
In 2011, Edwin founded the local chapter of Confrérie du Sabre d'Or and remains as the Past Ambassador of the society. He is also a food, wine and cigar aficionado.
